Birth control and smoking?

My doctor prescribed me birth control to regulate my periods

When I went to go pick it up my pharmacist says that it doubles the chances of stroke and heart attack and so many other terrifying things if you’re a smoker.

My doctor knows my smoking history and I’m just worried it’s too dangerous to take..

I have really bad anxiety

I do plan on quitting smoking once I’m in therapy (next month) but my doctor wants me to start the birth control now due to me not having a period for 70 days (I’m not pregnant)

Does anyone on here smoke or has smoked while on the pill? (I’m 20 if that makes any difference) the pill that I’ve been prescribed is Tricira lo
