What is normal when switching formulas?

I’m switching my twins from Similac Sensitive to Similac Total Comfort. In the same day we started them on reflux medicine. They both have been spitting up a lot of their bottles since we gave them their first dose of the med last night. Is it normal to spit up that much when switching to diff formulas or do you think it’s the med upsetting their tummy?

My little guy did the same thing. He’s been on total comfort for 5.5 months and when he hit 4 months he stopped needing meds and did great with just formula. They do grow out of reflux but also give the meds time to work before switching formulas again. 🤞 it works for you!

I would say switching formulas around the same time you started medication probably wasn’t a good idea. The formula switch is probably causing the spit up, not necessarily the medication. Typically, you want to wait until the medicine can take effect and then switch formula if you think it’s still causing issues. My son has silent reflux, and his reflux just started getting worse, so we saw his pediatrician and asked what to do. She said we should up the dosage of his medicine and then if he’s still having some discomfort, then we can switch the formula. But usually the formula shouldn’t effect them if the medicine is working. So give it about a week or two, then make the switch.
