Landlady Issues
So what would y’all do in this situation?
I sent my landlady a note at the end of last month (with my rent check) stating that I had discovered white, gray, and black fuzzy patches inside the air conditioner in our bedroom. I believed it was mold and would like her to let me know what to do. It was beyond reach, so I couldn’t just wipe it out.
I never heard anything from her.
Today (almost 4 weeks later), I text her to ask again. I explain that we were out of our house for 3 weeks while pet sitting, and i was fine, but we’ve been back for 2 days, and i am sick again, and I believe the mold is why. I explained in my first note that it was making my husband and me sick.
She comes by when I get off work. She looks at it but says she doesn’t see anything. I don’t understand how she can’t, I see tons of it. She starts spraying this solution in it. She says it’s not bleach but should kill any mold or mildew. The stuff smells awful! It smells like cat pee! She told me it even smells after it dries.
Well after she left I noticed that the spray got on a chair and my bedding and discolored it. I’m kind of upset about it, but I don’t know whether it’s worth bringing up.
She said she would come back and spray it again in a few days if I would get her a key for our house. (She swears she doesn’t have one and accused me of changing my own locks, which I didn’t.)
The smell makes me nauseous and it made my chest hurt. Luckily I was planning to leave the house anyway. I hope it’s better when I return tonight, but what should I do? I can’t just remove the air conditioner, as it is caulked to the window frame.
Edited to add: moving is not an option. We have a great deal where we live, and any comparable places want at least a few hundred dollars more in rent each month, and we just can’t do that.
