Can the beginning of dilation happen within hours?

Question

So I got checked today first time since 34 weeks and was told no dilation cervix soft but closed but baby head is in position. Can this change fast? I’m 39 weeks and 4 days. said will have to be induced around 41 weeks if things don’t change. Any similar cases that went into labor quickly after need encouragement

Yes I was at 1cm at 11 am feeling rather disappointed that there was no progress in a week then my water broke at 9:45pm and gave birth at 12:28. It all happen so fast they couldn’t even give me an epidural..

Yes, some people have zero dilation and then spontaneously go into labour with no warning and begin dilating then.  It doesn’t actually mean much to be dilated in advance!

Yes I was checked and was 50% effaced and not dilated a week later I had him.
