Do I need an electric breast pump?

Hey mommas with twins, do I need a nice, electric breast pump? I will be staying at home with my twins when they get here. I have a single manual pump that I used with my daughter when I was going to be away from her, and it worked just fine. But I heard that you need to pump a lot more with twins to get your milk supply up. Just wondering if I need to spend the money? What is your experience?

Before you are released from the hospital have them give you a medical grade pump to use. Have the doctor write you a prescription for the medical grade pump and then it’s free for at least a few months.

I needed it to try to increase supply, and because my smaller twin had a poor sucking reflex and wasn’t able to breastfeed.  It will depend on your individual circumstances though - how much milk you’re producing, and how early your babies come.

Yes! Tandem feeding twins is hard so bottle feeding breast milk might be a better option until you get the hang of it. Plus you’ll want to pump to increase supply. Twins need a lot of milk and once they start cluster feeding it feels like you can never have enough. An electric pump will help save time and free up hands!
