Birth control for pcos!

Hello I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome last year,when going over medications with my doctor.Birth control was my first option,my parents shot it down immediately.I’ve taken a medicine called metformin 2 help My hormonal imbalance,but I still haven’t had regular ovulation or periods.(I did a couple times on it but that’s it) I don’t know how to word my want of trying birth control to my parents,Does anyone use birth control for PCOS? What’s your experience? How do I ask my parents?
