friends and crushes

me and the girl (we are very close) like the same guy. she told me that she liked him but at the time i wasnt sure so i said no. he likes someone, and we both have no idea who it is. anyways if he ends up liking her i will fall apart but if he ends up liking me she will fall apart. i dont think she likes him that much but am i a bad person/selfish if i mak efforts to talk to him?
