Starting IVF exclusively for purposes of PGD...

C • IVF for PGD. No infertility & 1 prior natural preg; late TFMR 7/2018 due to unrelated non-genetic fetal anomaly.

Hi everyone - I wanted to start this group because I thought it might be helpful for others in similar situations to share experiences together in one place and it doesn’t appear that any PGD-specific groups exist here yet.

Although my husband and I feel extremely lucky to have no fertility issues (we conceived very quickly upon first trying earlier this year, and my hormone levels/ovarian reserve/his SA all look good despite being in our upper 30s), given the fact that we now know we are both CF carriers (which was determined with our recent, naturally conceived pregnancy, that devastatingly was TFMR at +20 weeks in July 2018 upon discovery of a completely non-CF related, non-genetic, fetal anomaly incompatible with life) and have a 25% chance of conceiving a child affected with CF, we are turning to IVF for PGD.

The time, expense, and mental anguish of deciding to put ourselves through this process is tough, especially knowing there is a 75% chance that we could naturally conceive a healthy child on our own, but particularly given our recent loss, we’d like to give any future child every possible opportunity to lead a very healthy life.

For obvious and important reasons, most IVF articles, community forums, and apps are aimed at women and couples with infertility issues, so I wanted to carve out an online space here for those women like myself who have found themselves here in this wild and often frustrating world of IVF for pretty different reasons.

I would love to hear from you and learn about your experiences on this journey, and I hope this may be helpful and or interest to others as well. Hugs to all who also find yourself here. 💗
