The Bible’s answer
Many Christian denominations teach that God is a Trinity. However, note what the Encyclopædia Britannica states: “Neither the word Trinity nor the explicit doctrine appears in the New Testament . . . The doctrine developed gradually over several centuries and through many controversies.”
In fact, the God of the Bible is never described as being part of a Trinity. Note these Bible passages:
“Jehovah our God is one Jehovah.”—Deuteronomy 6:4.
“You, whose name is Jehovah, you alone are the Most High over all the earth.”—Psalm 83:18.
“This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.”—John 17:3.
“God is only one.”—Galatians 3:20.

Yes and no. The best dicription i have ever heard for this is an egg. 
The egg has three main parts the shell the white and the yoke. The same with God the Father. God the Son (Jesus) and God the Holy spirit. Thay are all God just different parts.

The Nicene Creed definitely distorted the understanding of God's nature. 
For years people lived without knowing what God is really like! Which is part of why, eventually, God revealed himself to the first prophet on the earth since the the time of Christ. Joseph Smith recorded that God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, are two separate beings.
God is the loving Father of every person on Earth. He created our spirits and sent us to earth to gain our bodies. 
Christ is his only child in the flesh. He only could perform the sacrifice required to allow us to repent and return to our Father in Heaven.
Knowing that God is my Father it makes way more sense to pray to him and makes it way easier. Does that make it easier for you?

God and Jesus are of the same essence, but separate beings. Jesus said “I and the Father are one”. Be He is also a real man who lived on earth in a specific time. The Trinity is complex
