Anyone else get bummed & kinda annoyed in a way when they see others’ considering the name you’ve picked out so long ago for your child?

Name wasn’t popular, now it seems like everyone is thinking about/ using it. Like come onnnnnn.🙄

I’m more bummed by the fact that I picked a name VERY VERY long time ago that if I ever have a daughter I’m gonna name her that. And now I found out that I’m actually having a girl but after seeing her ultrasound photo I feel like that name will not suit her 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

I picked out the name Elizabeth Rose years ago, Elizabeth after my great, great grandma and Rose after my husband's cousin who was my room are that set us up on a blind date. Both are used so frequently now that I feel like I should consider another name but I love it and it has so much meaning for me

I named my son Ezra after the biblical prophet. No one had even heard the name before. Then a few years later all these people younger than me kept saying "oh after the show?" I finally said "what show???"....Pretty Little Liars. Then it became the #2 most popular name. I didn't name him that just to be unique, but it's super annoying that now people assume I chose his name because of a TV show I've never even seen vs the deep meaning of why I actually chose the name. And it's dumb to name your child after a TV character in general, in my opinion.

Yes. I just made a rant post about this yesterday & deleted it because everyone was calling me childish & telling me to get over it. I chose the name Emersyn for my daughter & announced it last Saturday at my gender reveal. Well 30 mins later my phone is blowing up by people telling me a girl announced she is naming her daughter Emersyn, literally happened like 20 mins after me announcing my name. Yet I ignored it, Well then yesterday I get on fb to see the same girl has started calling her daughter “Emmy” yet hasn’t used that since announcing her name but I have been calling my Emersyn, emmy since the Saturday I announced it.

I must be the only person who has never cared about the popularity of a name. I guess since I've never met another person with my name, I cant understand the obsession with not having '5 Jessica's in the same class!' Who cares?! If you like the name, use it. My daughter has a common name, like within the top 5 for the country. And my boy name is just as popular.

We announced our name when we announced the gender. I was worried about someone “stealing” it as I’ve never seen the name (only as a last name) and if they had I would DEFINITELY call them out on it lol

I had a name picked out for years in case I ever have a girl. My brother and SIL are now expecting a girl and decided to pick that name (yes, they knew I wanted it). Now THAT bummed me out!!!

Most of them have probably loved it for a long time just like you! It only wasn't popular back then because all you people who love it weren't having kids yet. Names shift in and out of popularity because of waves of cultural associations and trends that affect whole generations. You're part of the trend that's making it popular. It can feel unfortunate. But it's not like they're doing something annoying and you're the only one liking it for pure reasons. 
We are all part of cultural shifts that make certain names, certain styles, certain sounds more popular once our cohorts start having kids en masse. Lots of people misinterpret this as "I liked it before it got popular" when it's really more like "I'm part of the cultural shift that's making this name popular." I think name trends are really fascinating though.
