Weaning advice (pacifier)

Is

So my son is 19 months old and since he self weaned from breastfeeding a month ago he's become obsessed with pacifiers, so I need to wean him but it's so hard! He only has them to fall asleep and he's a great sleeper. He'll fall asleep within five minutes after he gets his pacifier. I've tried a few nights to not give him one and he's been screaming and crying for hours, and that's not like him. He usually goes to bed around 7-8 and those nights when I haven't given him his pacifier he's been up well after midnight and then I just gave in because I felt cruel. He's not old enough to be told he's a big boy or whatever and he's not old enough to understand that "if I cry long enough I'll get what I want". I don't believe in letting anyone, including babies cry. I don't know what to do. I have no one to help me so if he's up all night crying I'll be up too and be exhausted and not the best parent the following day because lack of sleep takes my patience and I also feel that isn't fair to him. I've tried to read up on advice, but all advice seen to be for either older kids or just quit cold turkey.
