Please no hate!

I was just diagnosed with herpes, they haven’t gotten back the test to know which type it is yet.. but i spoke to my boyfriend about it, and he and I both have it now, although unsure of who had it first and gave it to the other.. I experienced my first outbreak unknowing that it was herpes and we had sex and he developed an outbreak.

(Which I’m very confused because I never had anything before I slept with him and he claims the same)

My question is, if one of us has no outbreak/symptoms yet the other does, and we have sex does it trigger an outbreak in the person who isn’t experiencing one at the time?

Or can you not reactivate the virus through sexual contact with someone having an outbreak?
