It sounds like he is insecure - 
My husband and I don’t talk about it much - meaning he doesn’t ask me if I have masturbated that day - that would be odd. But we openly acknowledge that it’s something we both do. 
Quite honestly it’s none of his business what you do with your body on your own time. Unless masturbation interferes with your sex life, or you have a masturbation addiction that is affecting your relationship, I don’t see any issue and he just needs to get over himself.
