What do you count as the 1st day of your period?

When it comes to clomid do you count the first day as actual bleeding or the first day as when you start spotting? 
Started spotting today, very faint.

I asked my OB the same thing because I will spot a day or two before AF really picks up lol. She said spotting doesn’t count. She said to count the first day of your actual flow as CD1.
