Induction VBAC birth story!

Jennifer • Married 10/4/14 SAHM with 2 girls❤️

I had a c-section with my first daughter in 2016 due to her being breech. I had a horrible experience with it because Of hemorrhaging and blood clots. I ended up having 2 blood transfusions. So I knew when I got pregnant again I wanted to try a VBAC. I have such an awesome and supportive doctor that has encouraged me this whole time.

So when I went in for my 39 week appointment on Monday we did an ultrasound and baby was measuring 4-5 weeks behind and weighed 5lbs 14oz. So we decided that since she had been head down, I was 1.5cm dilated and my cervix was nice and soft that my doctor would induce me on Wednesday. They also were worried about a flat spot on her head they saw on ultrasound.

We came into the hospital at 8:30 and got checked in. I tested positive for GSB so started on antibiotics immediately. I got my cervix checked and and I was dilated to a 1.5 About 30 minutes later they started me on pitocin at level 2. I didn’t feel any contractions but knew I was having them. Around 10:30 they checked me again and I was at 2cm dilated. They upped my pitocin to 4 and I started feeling light contractions but nothing painful. I got my pitocin upped again at 11:15 to a 6 and my contractions started feeling uncomfortable but not real bad. At 1:00 they came in the break my water. It was a very weird experience lol. It didn’t hurt very much but felt gross. At that point they said my contractions were going to start getting more painful and asked if I wanted an epidural. I was worried that it would wear off by the time baby got here but they assured me that any time I needed it I just press a button and I would get more. So I agreed.

Getting the epidural was kind of rough. Not because it hurt really but but because it was hard for me to bring my knees to my chest and keep my chin down and be still while they did it. My anesthesiologists was amazing though. After it kicked it I was in heaven lol.

They upped my pitocin again to a 7. At 6:15 they came in and checked my cervix and I was 3.5cm dilated and 60% effaced. By this time I thought things were going so slow I would never have her! But they have to go slow so they can keep a close eye on c-section scar. I got checked again 8:30 and was 5cm dilated and still 60% effaced. At this point I was just a little uncomfortable and my contractions were coming in a good pattern. I ended up falling asleep lol.

They came to check me again at 10pm and the minute she put her hand in to check me my nurse got a big smile on her face and said it’s baby time. I was completely thinned and 10 cm dilated. I couldn’t believe it! It took forever to get to 5 cm and then only 1.5 hours to get to a 10. I was still really relaxed and didn’t feel any pain. I would just feel pressure when I would have a contractions.

My doctor came in and let me know what to do and how to push. They sat a mirror up so I could see everything going on which helped. I had one nurse hold one leg, my best friend hold the other, my husband at my head and my mom watching over doctors shoulder. I pushed for 21mins and she was here. I didn’t feel anything but pressure. No ring of Fire pain or anything.

At 11:04pm we welcomed Emily Kate into the world. She was not as small as expected. She weighed 7lbs and is 21in long. Her head never had a flat spot either. All the worry of washed away the minute we saw her. She is perfect.

I am so thankful I got to have a VBAC. A lot of people said I couldn’t do it or it wasn’t safe to try if I had to be induced. That is absolutely not true. As long as you have a supportive doctor you trust you can do it.
