Circumvallate placenta

Kaitlyn • Thea Rosalie, due 4/5/2019!!

So we had our 20 week anatomy scan today and learned we are having a baby girl. She weighs around 10 oz and heart rate was 155. She was super squirmy and moved around a ton. It took quite awhile before we could get to see her little face. I don’t think she liked the ultrasound wand.

Doc said the scan looked pretty good and Baby appears to be healthy and fine developmentally, but the scan did show a spot on the placenta that could possibly show circumvallate placenta. The doctor didn’t seem overly concerned about it right now, but I do have to get another ultrasound next month to check on it.

I’ve been looking things up about it online (which I know can be a stupid move but I’m curious) and apparently, it’s a fairly rare condition. It can lead to complications like low birth weight, placenta abruption, oligohydramnios, miscarriage, and pre term birth. Can be associated with increased need for c section.

So, I guess my questions are: does anyone have experience with this diagnosis or condition? What was the outcome? Was anyone ever told this could be something they have and then found out it was wrong? Should I be worried?
