Anyone else diagnosed anemic?

I was borderline anemic before pregnancy and then when I went in for my gestational diabetes test they found Anemia instead and started me on Iron pills that day. They hurt my stomach and make me lose my appetite and get uncomfortable. Any suggestions?

I find if I have my tablets with/after food they don’t make me sick.. also was told to eat lots of red meat and cashews as it’s great forks of iron. 3rd pregnancy and I’ve got it again. Hoping to avoid a transfusion this time around but doesn’t look good 😫

I am in the same boat. If I don’t take them with something I will throw them up and it is horrible. I take them with grapes because I was told calcium and fiber would inhibit observation. I was recommended orange juice to take it with but that made the nausea and heartburn worse. Try grapes.

I just found out the same as you. My doctor recommended Ferrous Gluconate iron rather than the Ferrous Sulfate. It's supposed to be easier on your body and more easily absorbed. I found it at the local drugstore near the women's health section rather than where all the other vitamins are.

My iron was half of what its meant to be. I'm on iron supps now and they suck 🙃 I've had awful cramping and constipation like no tomorrow

I struggled with a slight anemia my entire life and I'm a regular blood donor.
I tried different pills but what worked for me is liquid iron - I used Ferroglobin pre-pregnancy to increase my levels before and after donating blood and now, at 27 weeks pregnant I was placed on Tot'hemma (vials, ampoules form).
My hemoglobin level was 11 so not that low but the doctor is concerned as it will only worsen in the third trimester. I have to redo the blood test at the end of Nov and in case it isn't solved, I will start iron infusions.

I take mine at night right before I go to sleep so I don’t notice any side effects.

Are you taking iron right after a meal? I had the same exact situation with both my pregnancies, and I found if I ate right before taking them I wouldn’t have to side effects you mentioned!

Get a liquid iron instead like spatone or Gaia herbal iron. You could take up to 60mls of this per day. It’s better absorbed and doesn’t constipate.
