Should I be concerned?

My period was 8 days late when it showed up, I just stopped taking birth control so I figured it was probably just messing with my cycle. Today is day 2, and I was putting my son down for a nap, I had been sitting on the couch for about an hour watching a show and my period has been pretty light all morning so I just had a thin pad on. When I went to take my son to bed I felt a gush of blood and it literally leaked all down my legs and created a puddle on the floor. There are bloody footprints leading to the bathroom. Is this concerning? Or is this pretty normal? I feel silly asking this but maybe it’s just a side effect of coming off birth control. I’m cramping pretty bad too.
