Car seat safety

KC

The amount of times I see people posting their babies being unsafely buckled in their seats is scary. PLEASE research the proper way to install a seat and also how to safely secure your baby.

-Chest clip at the armpit level (if strap covers prevent that, take them off)

-there should be no more than 1” of movement at the belt path (where the seatbelt is or the LATCH)

-Properly reclined for weight

-there should be no slack at the shoulders when the straps are pinched between two fingers.

-straps should come from behind the shoulders, not above.

-no thick coats when strapped into the seat

-no items that did not come with the seat or made by the manufacturer specifically for that seat. (Infant inserts, headrests, cute strap covers, etc.)

This is not to be a jerk, but to help save the life of your child if you were in an accident. Having the chest clip misplaced can allow your child to slip out of the restraints or the chest clip will cause many internal injuries if down below the sternum. If your carseat was to fail in an accident and your child wasn’t restrained to the specifications of the manual, the company is not liable for injuries.

If you need help installing or need to check if your child is properly strapped, check out Car Seats For The Littles on Facebook.
