Greyson OR Grayson ??? For a boy name

I named one of my twins Greyson and EVERYONE has asked me why I spelled it with an E rather than an A and I’m just curious why ! I did it because if you name a boy Grey you spell it Grey rather than Gray. I do think it’s just personal preference and can be spelled either way but just curious why people think it’s the craziest thing ever that I used an A. I said this to my husband today and he said I wondered why you spelled it that way too WTH !! Lol

I like both spellings. I think the E is more popular out of US. In US the color Gray is spelt with an A. Therefore a lot of people are used to seeing A than E.

UK is grey. US is gray. So that may be why.

I think it’s just preference, but anyone who cares that much is an idiot. Both spellings are acceptable to me and aren’t crazy different compared some names I have seen on here that confuse the hell out of me!

I personally have always felt that gray is a warm gray, like earthy-toned. And grey feels like a cool grey, maybe with a slight overtone of blue or purple.
I know technically it's a regional thing. But I've always used them to mean two slightly different colors.

I have a Saylor Grey (girl). I am opposite and personally think Grey is suited for both, but I find it more feminine than Gray. Probably because Gray looks like Gary lol. 
I chose the Grey spelling over Gray to honor our English heritage, plus I think it’s prettier. 
.. And I hate to break it to you, but Grey is still a color just like Gray. It’s just spelled with an ‘e’ in the UK. Both my girls have color middle names (Violet and Grey). Gray/ Grey are surnames on top of being a color.

Greyson/Grey tends to be used more widely across the UK and would be common as it was originally grey and the American spelling was changed to Gray, Grayson/Gray is more commonly found in North America. Both are technically correct and accepted. If you have an A in your name like last name Thomas it may look more pleasing to use gray... Grayson Logan Thomas (all As) if you have Es...Greyson Theodore Walker (all Es)..I think they're both okay.

Which one do you like best? My stepdaughter has a brother named Greyson and my cousin has a son named Grayson the only difference is the way the say it and the way it's spelled.
