When will he get the bottle?! 😩

Question

We just started trying my 29 weeker (now 36 weeks) on the bottle on Tuesday. The most he has ever eaten at once is 10ml. He always falls asleep. How long did it take your baby to take full feedings or just stay awake through it?

It took my 33 weeker 28 days to take full feedings on his own. What all the other ladies said is great advice. It will just click for your baby one day. It's so frustrating that you can't really do anything but just wait. Stay strong you will be home soon <3

My son was born at 29 weeks. He came home at 35 weeks and he had been drinking from a bottle for about a week so he got it at about 34 weeks.

The nurses taught us to sort of push up on him under his chin if he starts to fall asleep and that reminds him to suck - have you tried that? 
Other things that help our son get the full bottle down are: hold him away from you like the nurses do (keeps them more alert since they’re not as snuggled), burping him 1/2 way thru the bottle, and unswaddling him if he starts getting sleepy. 
Every baby is different, but man do they change quickly! Before you know it those bottles will be going down like it’s nothing. 😊

You can lightly massage his jaws almost by the cheeks and it will encourage the sucking motion and help keep him up. You can also wait to change his diaper until he starts falling asleep then change him and start feeding again

My 27 weeker got his first bottle the day of his 2 month old mark. It took him a month and a half to take full feedings to keep his weight up.

My bub was like that too. We gave him a paci to help encourage him to suck. We also kept him unswaddled and with as few layers as possible without him getting too cold since he had temperature control issues, we also rubbed his head a lot while he ate which was stimulating enough to help keep him awake.
We also burped him a lot, probably more than was necessary to help encourage him to stay awake. Sometimes it worked better than others, once he hit 38 weeks he finally had enough weight gained to help give him more energy to stay awake when feeding but it was still a struggle sometimes.

My twins were born on 34 weeks and 3 weeks later we are still in hospital, my boy got the feeding and sucking down easy, my girl on the other hand is really battling with this and gets tired very quickly. This unfortunately does test our patience  since they can go home as soon as they finish bottles for 24hours. Your baby will get there mommy, stay positive and keep the faith. 🌸

Our baby really struggled with this and it kept us in hospital.  We started alternating tube feeds and bottle feeds.  At first it was two tube feeds then a bottle feed and then we alternated.  The idea was the tube feeds gave her time to rest before she tried bottle feeding. 
I don’t know what your thoughts are on dummies but I did read recently that dummies help prem babies learn to suck.  Although we weren’t told this in hospital so probably worth checking with the nurses.
