As my family is and has been going through the matching process to be a kidney donor to my mother in law we have discovered the black market for organs.

I have only looked into kidneys. But basically we can buy a kidney from a person from a developing country for about $100k. It involves us paying for the person to come to Canada, have the surgery, and then pay for them to return home.

In the end they end up with a life changing amount of money and the person in need ends up with a new organ.

There is currently no law in Canada that makes this an illegal transaction if it’s done through an organ agency.

This whole concept blows my mind. I find it to be a disturbing thought. When we spoke to some of the people at the agency they explained it to us to be a completely life changing event. Yes they end up down a kidney but the money earned gets them out of poverty.
