After 5 years... it’s pretty safe to say that I know this man well enough to catch onto him having something to hide. There’s no mistrust, we live together, and we use each others phones almost daily.

Typically, because our birthdays fall the week following Christmas, we don’t give gifts- we take a trip instead and celebrate birthdays, Christmas, and “anniversary” of our relationship. Our schedules are SO hectic that this works much better than doing 3-4 separate outings.

Lately, he hasn’t left his phone alone with me. He’s never exhibited this behavior before. So I’m like

So that’s been going on for awhile which led me to believe that maybe he was planning on getting me gifts because we have not planned for a trip yet (we’ve usually already done so by the end of Nov.). I was honestly not planning on gift exchanging! Once I gifted him a massage and he took me to dinner... he felt terrible because he thought his “gift” was lame, but ya girl likes to eat so I was content. So I’m starting to freak out because we might have another situation like that and I don’t like him feeling inadequate. He jumps into the shower and I speed race my way to his phone. He has to have mentioned gifts or even his plans for what is normally a planned trip to at least one person, right? And I wanna make sure that I don’t “out-do” him 🙄

I don’t have much time because he showers ridiculously fast! So I have to choose my thread carefully. And that’s when I tap on “Maria”, that’s my mothers name. I’m thinking he’s a smart cookie for asking her for some help because he’s not the best gifter ...

This explains his suspect behavior and is relieving, but I can’t believe that I mistakenly came across this because I was legit expecting him to flat out ask my mother what shoes he could buy me for Clinical or something of that nature.

He left for work and has no clue that I just discovered his plan to propose!
