If the last name is like Davidson or something else 3+ syllables then I think it's fine. If the last name is one syllable then definitely no. Two syllables I'd probably say no too, but it depends.

I think it depends on if they are different lengths and don't really sound the same. My husband's initials are BRB but his names aren't similar
