Is the show catfish fake?

I just have a hard time believing so many people ate so stupid lol. First of all they can google names themselves and see if the person is legit or whatever. Then it’ll be an obvious catfish and there are so many red flags but they ignore them all. Some of them even send money and expensive gifts

Some people are really lonely. Or have NO real experience dating. 
Some people have been in abusive situations or had love withheld and are so desperate for affection they truly believe they found the one. 
There are plenty of women willing to let a man smack them around and call it love. I don’t see why an online romance is so hard to fathom and how someone could fall for it.  Just be glad you haven’t had those experiences and don’t be to sure a person won’t lie right to your face even if you know they exist.  🤷🏼‍♀️

As far as I know it’s real. I have a friend who applied for the show. She got a call from the guys on it and met with them and everything but then wasnt able to do the show because the guy she was talking to online refused to sign a consent form 🙄

I mean the show has been on for a while, so it was a lot more challenging to just search around on the web and find answers instantly. However, the more technology and people progress you see the people on there saying “I googled them and looked up profiles, etc” and they don’t all come in helpless. But honestly, ask anyone if they’ve ever been In a bad relationship where they ignored red flags and didn’t stand their ground and got in too deep not knowing how to break it off. Many people will say they’ve experienced it in some way, and I bet many of them feel stupid for not seeing what they see now, earlier. Its no different online! Plus people sometimes are seeking some love elsewhere because the people in their area don’t find them appealing or they have a hard time talking in person. That’s normal to want that love and affection and sense of belonging so they may turn more of a blind eye to bad stuff for the benefits.

Yes it’s real not just on tv my mother in law does this. She gets pictures from women online and pretends to be them and befriends guys online. She has relationships left and right. A lot of the men send her up to 1,000$ weekly or bi weekly. We’ve talked to her that it’s not right and she doesn’t care she’s in it for the “love” 
One of the men she was dating came from Pennsylvania, left his family and friends for this “hot model body type woman” and boy he was disappointed when he saw my mother in law, he stayed because he wanted to work things out and make it work, she’s threatened to call ICE on him so that’s the only reason he’s still around

I was catfished for 6 months when I was 19. I did feel really stupid, but it was different 10 years ago. You couldn't so readily search up everything about an individual like you can today. I also didn't just assume he was lying with a name, a profile full of the same face photos, and a personality that seemed to match. Meeting in person was horrific, looked nothing like the photos, age was right, but had nothing going in his life that he said he had. I luckily had some friends in the area (it was a long distance relationship) that took me in when we realized what happened, and I very quickly went back home after.

I actually read an interesting article about the truth behind Catfish!
So I guess the stories are all very true! And Nev and Max actually go to the catfishes house and expose them, that’s all real!
However, the part at the beginning when they’re reading the email, and when they do the reverse image search and the Facebook stuff, that’s all fake.
The producers have already read the emails and done all of the research before the episode. Nev and Max already know the person being catfisheds story and have read the email and probably have already met them.
So it’s about 60% real and some of it is just for tv!

They definitely get the people, but it IS real. And yes, there are red flag, but sometimes when you're lonely or need someone, you are willing to turn a blind eye. Plus these folks know how to pull you in and sweet talk you.
