Photos of Newborn - Am I Being Too Strict?

We are due in March, and one thing my husband and I have discussed is that we do not want anyone taking photos of our daughter when they are visiting in the hospital. We have decided to designate one person to do all photographing, where photos would be given to us first, and then we’d share them with the visitors. The reason behind this being that we do not want unapproved photos of our daughter on the internet, and when we announced our pregnancy at a family event, one of my in-laws shared the news with others before we had (despite us asking them not to post anything about it online). Am I being too strict requesting that no photos be taken other than by our designated photographer? I’d love to hear others thoughts and experiences with that.

Not at all. You choose who gets to take pictures of your kid. You can also report photos of your child online if you don't want people posting them.

Not at all. It is extremely rude to post photos of someone without asking them first. Being an adult or a newborn. If you get the general feeling that they will mind, then maybe you could tell people you’d rather they visit you later.

At first when I read the initial portion i thought that it was a little strict but then i finished reading. I think if anyone complains or gives you weird looks, i would bring up the story and say you would really appreciate the understanding so you can have this one. People usually go along better when they understand the back story.

I understand completely!! After our gender reveal about 9 that night I finally got my phone from the car to see tons of text messages from out of state family upset that they had to see from strangers on Facebook what the gender was. I was so in the moment I didn’t think to tell people not to post I honestly thought it was common courtesy to let us share on social media once we were ready that the people there had to help keep our secret, and no one asked if we would mind which would have been my first question. I was so upset that I never made my own post and never shared the video from the professional that was there to capture it for us. So I’m gonna make a huge deal about pictures of our son going online I told my husband to be ready for bitch mom to be in full effect at the hospital lol
