Taking children to see those less fortunate during the holidays

How does everyone feel about parents doing this?

When I was a kid, I remember one year my parents took me to a soup kitchen to volunteer during the holidays. Their reasoning was to show me how good my life was and to not take it for granted.

Now that I’m an adult, it’s made me think if doing this is actually okay. I don’t really think it’s right for kids to go for that reason. I think it puts in their head that they’re better than those who don’t have as much as they do. That those who don’t have enough are frowned upon and “gross” or “unpleasant”

I think those who go to these events should be there for the sole purpose to help out because they care about those in need. Not use people to prove a point to their kids.

How do you feel?
