Couldn’t find heartbeat at 13 weeks
We had a scare last week. It’s not a moment anyone would want to have, but coming off of two previous miscarriages, it felt like history was repeating itself.
I was just in the office for a routine checkup with the midwife. At the end, she used the Doppler to try and get a listen to the heartbeat. She tried. And tried. And nothing. Even went and found another Doppler just in case. At 13 weeks, it should have been fairly easy to find the heart rate.
Luckily, the office I was at had an ultrasound machine and a tech who thankfully made room in her schedule about 15 minutes later to see what was up.
As soon as she got the baby up on the screen, they were kicking and squirming up a storm. So obviously the baby was healthy. Facedown and really wedged down low, so that’s probably why the midwife was struggling.
But still. I wouldn’t wish those 15 minutes on my worst enemy.
