OBGYN and Midwife difference in care?

This is my third pregnancy so I am much more laid back and decided to go the midwife route this time. but I am 17+4 weeks and I have yet to hear the baby’s heartbeat or had any form of ultrasound. Be it I have only gone once at 12 weeks for my initial appointment. 12 weeks is as early as they take clients and I go in at 18 weeks so a few days from now but it is so different. I really do not want multiple ultrasounds or anything 2 tops but usually I have a dating ultrasound early on. Is this normal for a midwife group or not?

I have seen midwives for both pregnancies. Midwives are very qualified and are RNs who have also completed a long masters program specifically in women’s care. They are very medically educated. I guess it varies place to place but I’ve gotten heartbeat at every apt, and annultrasound at 9, 12, and 20. Just ask them their standard!

I started with an OB, and had early ultrasounds at 5 and 7 weeks. We saw the heartbeat at 7 weeks. I then switched to a midwife and had my first appointment at 12 weeks. We heard the heart beat with a Doppler at 12 and 16 weeks. We go back at 20 weeks. We will hear the heartbeat again on a Doppler and then schedule the anatomy ultrasound. 
Did they try to hear the heartbeat with a Doppler at 12 weeks? It was kind of hard to hear for us at 12 weeks, but it was there. It’s odd to me that you haven’t heard it yet. Our midwife follows the same type of appointment schedule as an OB, except all testing is optional.

I am seeing a team of midwifes. I go every 4 weeks and each time they check for the heartbeat with a Doppler. And due to a previous miscarriage, they offered a scan early on which I did. Basically they offer all the same things as a doctors office, but they aren’t pushy about it, that’s the nice difference. I go to a full on birthing center though, I’m sure there are many differences among midwives just as there are doctors.

My midwifery office doesn’t do early ultrasounds routinely unless there is a question on dating or a history of miscarriage. They do use the Doppler to check the heartbeat at apts BUT the first time was ab 12 weeks and apts are 4 weeks apart.

Yes. The ob offices can be very booked up. Didn't get first apt until 15 weeks but did hear heartbeat 😊😊

I think it varies from office to office. I was with OBs for my first and midwives for this one. I’ve had the same ultrasounds and appointments so far—dating scan between 6-8 weeks, NT scan at 12 weeks, and anatomy scan at 20 weeks.
