If you could put your ex in jail, would you?

If your ex physically hurt you, and you knew you were capable of putting him in jail for it, but because of his record he would be in jail for more than 3 years, would you do it?

I would. Because he can continue to hurt other women if he's allowed to keep going. And I couldn't deal with that blood on my hands.

What is he’s already in prison bc he couldn’t stop talking to “girls” but really it was the police pretending to be an underage girl and they finally caught his a** cheating on his new gf 😅😂 I put up with that for 4 years y’all!

From someone who suffered from over a year of physical, mental/emotion abuse from my son’s father- I’ll tell you- I wish I would have.  There were many times the police showed up at my house, even once when I locked myself in the bathroom with a bloody nose, another time with my shirt shredded and I denied him abusing me.  And when my friend showed up at my house and he was on top of me with his fists full of my hair and she drove me to the hospital for a cracked rib after she was able to deescalate him enough to let me leave.  I tried to leave him and he threatened he would kill himself.  I needed help. But I lied.  I lied to my family.  I lied to myself.  He should’ve been in jail. 
When I finally had the balls to leave him when my son was a year and a half old he continued to harass me and have dangerously controlling and unsafe behavior toward me. 
He eventually got remarried and had another child, and when the abuse with her started she had his ass in jail and a restraining order out on him toward her and their daughter.  
The abuse will not stop if it is allowed to continue.  I made so many excuses - from classic ones to absurd- to justify it being wrong he would go to jail because he had a previous record.  In doing that I enabled his behavior and made it ok that he did all that disgusting shit to me. Now, over 10 years later- I am still haunted by his abuse.  
There are no excuses.  Abuse is abuse.  You deserve to stand up for yourself. It’s not easy to, but no one should live in a relationship where they feel unsafe or threatened.  Start talking about it to your close friends or family, domestic hotlines or to someone who can help you.

I did this...in high school...you should never have to be afraid of someone and you should always protect yourself. Idk what would have happened to me or someone in the future if he hadn’t gone to jail.
