Long vs Short engagement

So I just got engaged (ahhhhhhh!!!!) and I’m so happy. I love my fiancé more than anything. He makes me feel whole and I love him so much. There is a problem though. He wants to have a short engagement, having our wedding be next July while I am leaning towards a longer engagement, so that way I can have the wedding of my dreams.

I am in my fourth year in college, graduating in the spring and I will be starting to get my teaching credential in the summer or fall so I can become a teacher. My fiancé will be hopefully starting seminary school in the fall, which is why he wants to do it in the summer. He says that he can’t wait to be married to me.

My family wants us to wait until after I get my teaching credential, because they are afraid that if I get married before I get it, I won’t finish it. Which they don’t want. My fiancé has assured me that he will make sure I get my credential, no matter what. He has his faith in God to help him to be calm. I didn’t grow up in a religious household, so putting all my faith in God is not second nature to me, but I am trying. I just don’t want to make a choice that could possibly ruin my life. Anyone have any advice? Any experience if they got married with a super low budget or having a short engagement?
