Maybe you weren't excited enough or too scared that u might have been too tight even for his fingers. Guys have really big and thick fingers. Next time take it slow try to see what you feel comfortable with. The mood is important too you can't just rush things.

If you decide to do it again, I’d suggest using some lube unless you’re very turned on and wet already. Fingering is not pleasant for me at all if I’m dry.
