Will my baby still get the benefits of breastfeeding if I have supplement with formula (my milk supply is low)

I only make approximately 3oz every 4 hours. My baby isn’t gaining enough weight. My goal was to just use breast milk but I don’t think I’m producing enough. Pediatrician said I might have to feed him formula after nursing.

Okay please don’t listen to comments from people who aren’t a doctor bc that’s exactly what happened to me and my baby’s weight dropped dangerously low! I always had a hard time with my supply but I started noticing my son crying while nursing and him not really having any milk dribbling out of his mouth or swallowing enough. And he was alwayssss crying. I thought he was teething. My sil, mom and mil kept telling me it was normal and to keep going. At 5 months I started rationing pumped milk while I was at work and started trying to add cereal. I was  taking brewers yeast, upspring milkflow pills, and drinking mothers milk tea. I went to a lactation consultant! Finally his weight dropped off the towel chart from being in the 10th percentile the last visit. The pedi told me I needed to leave and go get formula right away. As soon as he started formula I noticed a huge difference. He was full. Not crying ever hour of the day. Sopping wet diapers. My son is great now and a normal weight but I feel so so bad for ever not trusting my gut out of fear of being shamed for formula. I am a first time mom and didn’t know I was starving my child. Listen to your doctor and your gut.

I had an awful supply and my lactation consultant told me that as long as baby gets 15 ml (1/2 oz) of breastmilk a day they get all benefits (apart from digestibility but there are a LOT more benefits then just that) ♥️ I know how hard it is and how stressful but you are doing amazing! If you do supplement though make sure you pump at the same time to try to increase your supply (even if it is after a feeding). I tried literally EVERYTHING to get my supply up. I wound up taking moringa (a kale like supplement you can get on Amazon) at the suggestion of lc and it boosted my supply about 50% and then I got domperidone overseas which is a lot harder to get (and I would recommend the moringa first) but more than doubled my supply. We were eventually able to exclusively breastfeed and I breastfed her for almost 19 months! It was HARD work though and there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing formula if you need to. ♥️

Every breastfeed is beneficial. So you’re giving your baby a good start in life each time you feed. 
If you supplement your milk supply will never increase enough to match bub. It took me weeks of feeding on demand and very long cluster feeds to establish my milk but it did happen. 
Apparently most women actually do have enough milk but never nurse long enough to establish it. 
Good luck. You’re doing well already but if you really want to BF exclusively then keep feeding in demand and pump after feeding if you can.

In the beginning i full on breasfed but got a bit older it wasnt enough. Now my daughter gets supplemented about 6ozeveryday and the rest is breastmilk. My supply has not changed

I hit no... but I meant yes.  Just breast feed with you can and give formula in between and pump as often as you can and you could begin to produce more. There are some snacks that a are supposed to help produce more/faster that you could try, and make sure to stay well hydrated!

Yes.. and I was told blue Gatorade will help your supply and there's other stuff too that can help..but if baby isn't getting enough then you definitely need to supplement.. you want baby getting nutrients and sometimes that means adding formula.
