Should banks receive government bailouts?

This doesn’t seem to be as common now, but what are your thoughts on government bailouts for banks? Or even large companies?

Yes and no. I think obviously like others said, people need and deserve to be able to pull their out. However, should part of the bailout include $10 million bonuses to their CEOs, absolutely not.

It’s costing taxpayers trillions of dollars. The government has a commitment if $16.4 trillion. Banks have been caught laundering money, amongst other things. Our currency has been suffering from severe inflation, and we are due for another crash.

Screw banks. Let's just go back to middle school currency. 
I'll give the electric company an ENTIRE PACK of gum every month if they let me keep my power on. 
I'll get the gum by letting the grocery store copy my homework. 
My apartment complex can have my snack packs if they let me live here.

Perhaps if they stopped dishing out ridiculous salaries & bonuses when clearly underperforming- Then maybe they wouldn't rely on being bailed out.

In the U.S. the FDIC insures people's money, not the bank assets. If banks do shady shit they deserve to fail. They should not be bailed out by the govt/taxpayer. Read some analyses of the past bailouts and where they money actually went; hint: it didnt go to help prevent layoffs or losses, or stabilize,  it went to the executives and board members.

Nope. If the government is going to bail anyone out it should be individuals and small businesses. Feed the economy from the bottom up. Bail out the individuals so they can put money back into the economy and work its way up. When you have weeds, you don’t just cut the top off, you pull them from the root. Bailing out banks and large companies is the equivalent of chopping the top of a weed and leaving the roots. If you want to solve the problem, you’ve got to attack the root of the problem.

I suppose yes because of the government doesn’t bail them out it would only hurt the customers majorly. I know if I went to pull my money out of the bank and it wasn’t there I’d be absolutely screwed. That’s how the Great Depression happened.
