I was very against an epidural going in, I wanted to go all natural. But I was induced meaning they gave me pitocin (which is the devil) and my contractions became so bad that I had to use the safe word my husband and I agreed on because I was no longer just in pain, I was suffering and not progressing enough meaning I’d have gotten even worse as the hours went by. Once I got the epidural it was the most relief I’d had in several hours and the only way my body progressed because I was actually relaxed and even finally sleeping. The nurse woke me up a couple hours after getting it telling me it was time to push. I’d definitely do epidural again in the future (especially if being induced), but totally support and understand the want for natural too. Do what you feel is best for you!

Got it and regretted it because it slowed everything down to the point the monitors couldn’t even pick up my contractions anymore

I got something they called a walking epidural. It is the same process, but different medicine. That then gives the option to switch to a full epidural if you want. It took most of the pain away (at first) then took the edge off as i got further into labor. I switched to a full epidural about 1 hr before my son was born. I still felt him come out but didn't feel the "small things" like the stitches. I had the mindset of all natural at first, my best advice is just go with what you feel when you are in the moment. I liked the walking epidural so I wasn't bed ridden the whole time, the trade off is I felt most of the pain towards the last hours.

I loved the epidural! It actually helped me dilate really quickly since I was more relaxed and in less pain!
