Wait, Cytotec, or d&e?

I was told I had a missed miscarriage today. I was given the option to wait it out and see if I start to bleed, take Cytotec, or have a d&e. I have no idea what to choose. What have you ladies done and do you wish you did the other option? I was going to do the Cytotech but the side effects sound awful. Helpppp

I've had 3 miscarriages now and have had a d&c for all three of them. I personally think it is a lot easier than going through the pain physically and emotionally of passing it naturally. I was between 9 and 10 weeks with all 3 so I DID NOT want to see that, Plus all three of them went off to pathology for testing. It was a 10-minute procedure, everyone at the hospital was so comforting. They gave me meds before the surgery to help my nerves which was amazing lol and pain meds for after. About 3 days recovery(pain wise), the bleeding is different with everyone though. the first two I bled for about a month this last one I bled for about a week. Personally I recommend a D&C.

I have had both with my current miscarriage (first pregnancy/miscarriage). 
Here are some stats to consider:
20-30% of pregnancies end in miscarriage.
1% of miscarriages are missed.
Cytotec is 89% effective with two doses.
96% effective with two doses 
And 98% effective with three or more doses.
I am in a small percentage of people who have such a bad experience but here is what happened:
My doctor gave me four doses (all vaginally inserted) in the span of 8 days. I passed a lot of blood and clots, saw the sac, had bad contractions/cramps, etc. Nothing I couldn’t handle, but definitely unpleasant. After four separate rounds of cytotec, I ultimately had to get a D&C because there was something left that wouldn’t budge. I had that procedure done today. 
Statistics have not been on my side for any part of this experience so I am certainly biased. This has taken a severe psychological toll on me for the sheer fact that it took over a month to get my doctor to do a D&C and she either lied, or chose to not share information with me unless I pressed her for it. 
For instance: she did not tell me that if two doses of cytotec don’t work, a third and fourth are basically like spitting on a fire. She also told me that I would just have light sedation and blow-by oxygen during my D&C but I was actually heavily sedated with versed, propofol and fentanyl and I was in fact intubated. 
My best advice if you think you can handle an at home miscarriage, is to either wait or try a dose (maximum 2 doses) of cytotec. It’s always in your best intereste to avoid the small risk and high expenses of a surgical intervention. However, do not let anyone talk you into more doses than that. Just get a D&C if the meds don’t work because no one should go through the mental, emotional, and physical pain of what I just experienced. 
Thank god I have employee benefits that allow me to see a trauma counsellor for the PTSD I now have. I can’t even think about getting pregnant without massive anxiety.

I did the cytotec mainly because I didn’t want general anesthesia as well as I have a high deductible health insurance plan and I know it would have been expensive. Side effect wise my doctor did also give me Percocet for pain and zofran for nausea, I alternated the Percocet and ibuprofen so I was taking something every 3 hours, I did get some chills as well but I had a heating pad I was using so I was ok between that and a blanket. With the meds the pain was like really bad period cramps. 
Also I had already started bleeding a bit, I did learn after the fact that if you haven’t started bleeding yet the meds may not be as effective. If, god forbid, this happened to me again I would be comfortable doing the meds again but I know that’s not the case for everyone. I read all the horror stories online too and was very apprehensive as well but I read a few people with good outcomes too and overall this ended up being the best choice for me personally. I’m sorry you are having to make this decision but know that there’s no “wrong” choice, it’s a very personal decision. I hope you find comfort knowing many of us have been there before and there is this whole community here in support ❤️🌈

I was given the same three options. I chose the D&C. Some things to think about in your decision: if you choose to wait it out, you may not miscarry right away. I personally didn’t want to go through this at Christmas and wanted it over with ASAP. But, it is the only completely natural way, and I can appreciate the benefits to that. If you choose cytotec, it may or may not work. Even if it works, depending on how far along you were, you may not successfully pass everything and still end up needing a D&C. If you choose either of the first two options, you will be subject to miscarrying your young fetus which can be gory and traumatizing. It depends on if seeing that would provide you closure or cause you to be more upset. If you choose the D&C, you will be going under for a full surgery. It will be the fastest but most expensive option. It comes with all of the normal risks that surgery and anesthesia come with. You will not get to see your baby and you may not have any control over where the remains go. 
I chose the D&C and had it done last Thursday. The first two days after I felt great, fine, almost no bleeding. The next two days were much worse physically and emotionally. I was in a lot of pain with severe cramps passing big clots. The past two days I have felt like I’m on the medium-heavy days of my period with moderate cramps. I am ready for this bleeding to stop, but at least I know the end is near.

I had a missed miscarriage but I passed it naturally. The baby lived till 6 weeks and I started to bleed at 11 weeks 6 days and went in and told me the baby had stopped growing. It was horrible. Physically it was probably the less painful way but I still had contractions and the placenta was about the size of a baseball so not really a walk in the park but I have heard a dnc is painful. Didn’t ever hear about the medicine. I am so sorry for your loss.

If you do the D&C, make sure you’re sedated. You CAN have it while awake which I did because I have issues with anesthesia but it was horrific and I really wish I didn’t have to experience it. The recovery was fine but the procedure was the worst thing ever.

I had a d&c just over 2 weeks ago. Nov 26th to be exact. You are put fully under for the procedure. I was 11 weeks 2 days when I found out baby’s heart stopped, 12 weeks at the of the d&c. My body didn’t recognize the loss for almost a month and 0 bleeding. I didn’t want to go through the pain of the cytotec and seeing our deceased child on the ultrasound machine multiple times the day we found out was all the pain we needed. I also wanted the pathology done on the baby in case I needed to be worried about anything else. I did cramp for almost a week but nothing bad that Tylenol and ibuprofen couldn’t help with. My bleeding started to taper on Monday, 2 weeks after procedure and now I’m just having light brown spotting.

I did cytotec, placed vaginally. It works better and you won't throw it up... apparently most people do. I didn't want to wait because I was pretty sure the baby had passed a week prior to the determining ultrasound. It was super easy. I stayed in bed all day and had very very mild cramping for a good chunk of the day and for about and hour or two I had some mild/moderate cramping....not even anything I would complain about.

My first happened suddenly all in one night at home naturally , it was painful and I lost so much by 5am I thought I was dying. 
This last one started at home but I didn’t pass everything. I chose to do a D&C and for my mental emotional and physical health am glad I did it. I was only under for an hour and did not have to deal with the pain of “seeing everything” again. It really fucked me up the first time. With the D&C I had some minor cramping for a few hours after but otherwise had no pain. It was nice to not have another bad memory at home for myself. But after my experience and even being terrified of surgery I am happy I chose D&C, I only spotted for about 5 days after it.
