I’m 15 and I have an appointment for birth control next week. I’ve been sexually active and I feel like going on birth control is a great idea for me. My parents agree.

However, the problem is what kind of birth control to receive. My insurance doesn’t cover the implant so thats an automatic out. My parents want me to get the depo shot but I’m terrified of the stories and side effects I heard from the shot. Especially weight gain. (I’ve had eating disorders and bad mental health in the past. and I don’t wanna relive that.)

I would like to go on the pill, I know I would be responsible and take it regularly, however my dad doesn’t think so. If I’d rather take the pill do my parents have to consent or is it up to me initially.

Are there other options? Please help me out here.
