Vaccinations?

I know this is a controversial topic, but what is everyone doing in regards to vaccines? Whooping cough? Flu? My daughter just got her 1 year vaccines last week but we declined the flu, mainly because she already got 6 shots that day. Do you recommend the flu vaccine for my daughter, me and husband?
I haven’t gotten flu vaccine in years, and only picked up the flu last year when I went to the dr for a postpartum appointment. My daughter is also in daycare full time and the flu vaccine is not required. Just trying to figure out the best decision for my 1 year old and new baby on the way.

If you are due in February then for sure get your daughter her flu shot. Even more so because she goes to school. She can carry that home with her and you could not even know she has it and can infect the whole house including the new baby. The flu is deadly to newborns. If school doesn’t require it then that just means more children who are at risk who risk giving it to your little ones.

There’s a book called the vaccine book by dr sears and it explains what each shot is for, the risks, the ingredients, etc. I found it super helpful and might be a good read for you. He’s the dr who recommends doing vaccines but spacing them out.

When it comes to flu and whooping cough I have a very different stance than life saving vaccines. I have never ever had the flu  vaccine, and I have NEVER had the the flu. Ever. Whooping cough I got only when it was necessary as a kid and definitely have not had it since young teens for sure. 
I still will never get the flu vaccine I believe my body has built an immunity to the flu due to not vaccinating in top of the fact that the vaccine is specifically only for a few strains and there are so many so there's still chance that you catch the flu that you weren't specifically vaxed for. Whooping cough is a little different now that I'll have a little one. I'm not getting it to HELP baby build natural immunity but more so because my risk of contracting illness is much lower than say my fiancé because I will be home in our home environment most of the time, my fiance however will get the whooping cough vax because he works directly with a lot of people who potentially carry the virus and could bring it home which is potentially deadly to an infant. Regarding OTHER vaccines you know the ones that save your child from deadly PREVENTABLE diseases , pleeeeeease PLEASE vax as long as your baby is healthy enough for them. Some people for health reasons cannot get the vaccines so they rely on ehats called heard immunity (all others around them being vaxxed) to give them the best chance of NOT contracting the diseases that the vaccines they couldn't get would've prevented.

Getting the ones I can. I am immune compromised. Contracting some of these illnesses not only can harm my baby but could kill me.

I’ve never got the flu shot. And I’ve only had the flu once or twice when I was a kid. And I’ve worked in childcare and schools. Everyone I know who got the flu shot ended up getting the flu. So idk what that’s about🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ve read many things on it, and the problem with it is there are too many strains of the flu virus.

Got flu and whooping cough. When you’re pregnant it helps give protection to baby who is too small for shots. And you’re going to be interacting with small kids and elderly family all during flu season. Even if you wind up sick, the shot can actually make it less severe. It’s also not just about you and your baby. You make your community less likely to have a flu outbreak. Think of your parents, grandparents, your friend’s kid, etc. it’s a little something you can do for them too. I have a close family friend - he’s in his 50s, wound up in the hospital for the flu for eeeks! He doesn’t have any underlying issues. And it had some longer lasting effects. It’s really tough to convince people to be proactive about something that is protective. It’s like security at an event - if nothing happens, that’s proof they’ve done a good job, but that’s hard to prove right? Then people get lax and say, we don’t need as much security. Then of course, something happens. Anyway, that’s my analogy and my soap box. Just trying my best to convince you!

I got the flu shot in October. I had never had the flu or the shot, but my doctor recommended it due to weakened immune system during pregnancy. I will get the whooping cough at my 32 week appointment. I am also asking my husband and family members who will be around baby to get this vaccines.

Personally, for me, as a public school teacher that is regularly exposed to both dirty teenagers and immunocompromised students, I am firm believer in herd immunity. Most of us don’t get it BECAUSE the majority of the population are getting their shots. Without that, they’d come back. So to me, it’s more about the collective than the individual.
By not getting immunizations, we increase the risk of those who can’t get these shots from becoming ill. Also, I think that babies would be much more susceptible.
I stopped getting flu shots out of laziness when I was in college. I never got sick but I think I also developed an immunity to some strains, but now that I will have a baby and I am regularly exposed to viruses and germs from teens, it’s not a question for me any more.
