When are you all taking your leave?

Question

So I work 6 days out of the week, it’s nothing too hard, and I was planning on staying up until my due date. But as March is getting closer, I’m starting to debate wether I want to start my leave a week before my due date, only because I work 1 hour away from where I live. Best case scenario is I work up until a day before my due date and I go into labor on my actual due date. 
But truly, this baby is going to come out when it wants to come out, I just don’t want to go into labor while at work and panic since its my first time ever experiencing this. Any advice or plans you ladies are planning on doing?
Also for all you moms who’ve experienced labour before, I know doctors visits become more frequent towards the end of pregnancy, would my OB be able to tell me if baby is coming soon??  👀 sorry for all the questions, i just have no idea what to expect days before labour.

I plan to work until I’m in labor. I’d rather spend the time I have with the baby, instead of waiting on the arrival. People go weeks past their due date and there’s no telling when it could happen, early or late

I worked until I had my daughter. Worked Friday, had her Saturday. No issues. Also with your first baby you should have PLENTY of time from when things first start to when it’s actual delivery time. Don’t panic, maybe keep a change of pants and a pad with you in case your water breaks at work. In that event you probably still have tons of time. From water breaking to my daughter in my arms was 18 hours for my first. No your doctor can’t say if baby is coming soon. I was dilated 4cm for like a week before my water broke. Or you could go from completely closed and firm to delivering same day. You just never know but there’s still no issue with working till you have baby.

I plan to work until she’s here.  I am not wasting any time on the front end that could have been spent with her once she gets here.  FTM, so I don’t no what real life is going to bring but I’m hoping I can work until I know for sure I’m in labor.

I’ll probably leave work 2 weeks before my due date but also I’m only part time bc I’m in school as well🙂 I’d probably leave a month before if I was in your shoes

I worked a full 8 hour day and my water broke just before midnight that night. I only had 7 weeks before I had to go back, so I'm glad I didn't spend any of it before she came.
As far as doctor telling you when they think baby will come: it's just a guess. You can be dilated to a 3 for a month and still not go into labor. Everything was normal in my pregnancy and I was dilated a 2 for about 2 weeks and my water broke at 38 weeks. It just depends on when baby wants to come.

One thing I know for sure. Whatever plans you put in place, expect them to change. Ive seen to many mums make hard plans and be upset when it doesn't work out for them. Babies will come when they please, nothing you can do about that 😁

I always say that I’m going to go on leave 2 weeks before my due date, but always end up taking the entire month before my due date when the time comes. 
For some people the doctors might be able to tell, with me they never have been able to (I’m pregnant with my 4th). I’m always zero dilated, barely effaced and stay that way until AFTER labor begins. The only reason they know I’m in active labor is bc my water breaks a few hours after contractions start and only then do I start dilating. Same with ALL of my babies so far.

I am in California  and state will cover 4 weeks of state disability before and 6 weeks to recover then also 6 weeks of paid family leave to bond with baby.  I can not combine the 4 weeks with the rest of time so it is a use it or don’t situation. 
I asked my md for a weight restriction for work ( I am a nurse , so lifting and turning patients is a big part of my day ) and on that they wrote me to be off work on the 18th of February a month before the due date . I was originally planning to take it starting the following week but I accept it .

2 weeks before due. I am in school and want to get some extern hours done before she comes 😂 plus, I don’t plan on going back to my job after unless something happens. So I don’t mind using my leave before she’s here.
