Effaced? 🧐🧐

What’s effaced ? Like how thin the cervix is? My doctors don’t tell me anything about effaced, last appointment I had all they said was they feel his head and he’s really low and that my cervix was soft. That’s it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ am I not getting told correctly what’s going on down there lol?

They prob don’t tell you because none of it really means much until you are in actual
Labour. You can be dilated, effaced, engaged for weeks and weeks prior to birth

I had to ask my dr what percentage effaced I am. They didn’t offer the info to me without me asking

If your cervix is softening that’s a good sign

It’s not really standard of care to check at prenatals unless you have a history of something that requires it. Most women aren’t really effaced at all before labor starts, and there are risks to doing vaginal exams at prenatals (check evidencebasedbirth.com for more info). Just a few things to be aware of as you go into prenatals!
