Surprise! Getting your period in foreign lands

Kamilla

It’s happened to me a few times, but when I travel, it can mess up my cycle by up to a few days. I’ve been caught out in other countries and then had to brave buying feminine products in a foreign language. What stories do you have like this?

Most recently this happened to me in Mexico—I got my period two days early and was supposed to fly home the next day. Instead I had to go into a Mexican convenience store where they kept the feminine products locked up behind the counter. Oh lawd! The best I could do was point and say “uno verde” to one with green packaging. Everyone in line instantly knew why I was there and while I’m not embarrassed easily, it was a —-little—- embarrassing.

In China, the only words I knew to describe the event was “woman” and “time”

And I literally asked “where are (the) woman-time things?” At least it worked!
