Late Period

I want to have a baby and my boyfriend doesn’t. Currently my period is 5 days late, which is odd. So I took a pregnancy test. It came back negative and it kind of broke my heart because i was expecting and wanting it to be positive. Since it isn’t late because i’m pregnant. What could it be ?
