Pros/Cons to age gap between children?

We’re thinking about starting the TTC journey for #2. Our daughter is a year and 5 months old right now. We plan to start trying in February when she’ll be a year and 7 months. If we get lucky and conceive within 2 months they’ll be about 3 years apart. What is the age gap of your children and what do you see as a pro and a con? I’m still a bit on the fence and just wanted to see what your experience is with the varying age gaps.

My sister and I are 5 years apart. And although it was great for my mom since I could “help out” and what not, I’ve never enjoyed the age gap. 
I wish we were closer together. 
Because it’s just enough of a difference that a lot of what I could do growing up, she couldn’t just yet. And then when she finally reached that stage where she could, I was already out of it. So it was like she couldn’t keep up, honestly. I saw her as a baby. And that put a little bit of a strain on our bonding, because I was in big sister/mommy mode, instead of big sister/best friend mode..
It’s not like that for everyone of course, but that’s how it went for us. It’s gotten a LOT better now that we’re both grown, but even though the physical age gap is gone, there’s still a mental age gap as well. 
So all in all, I’d say your 3 year plan is a pretty good one. They’ll be big enough to sort of help, and understanding “mommy needs you too” while also still being within a close enough range of #2 both physically and mentally 🙂

I always wanted my kids to be about 3 years apart but it didn’t happen like that. Long story short my kids are 6 years apart. I have an 8 year old boy and a 2 year old girl. Let me tell you... I love it! He was/is such a huge help with her. From watching her while I do stuff around the house or shower, hold the bottle for her (when she was a baby) to entertaining her. I wouldn’t change a thing

Mine are going to be 15 months apart.. so I don't have much insight as he isnt born yet. But I will say the older they are they can help you out and bond more as an older sibling instead of not understanding what another baby is doing there. However (in any age difference) you'll need to pay attention to when your child starts to feel like your not spending enough time with them. The change is a big one and it'll eventually take a toll on their emotions. I'd say 2-3 years is a perfect age gap. I'm gonna have 2 under 2 and its gonna be so rough.....

Mine are 7 years apart. My son loves to help with his sister, and his sister loves to cuddle and play with him. He goes to school so I get alone time with my daughter when he’s at school.

My oldest is 12 and I have a 6 week old baby. I love it because she is so helpful with the baby. It wasn't planned that way it just kinda worked out that way.
