Changing providers at 40+3

I’m having some major beef with my doctor. He told me on my due date to schedule my pitocin induction. I asked for a list of my options and he refuses to try anything- even a membrane sweep with NO reasoning to back up why. He’s refused to even suggest anything to get labor moving.

I’m low-risk and have not a single red flag to justify the lack of choice in MY birth.

I’m calling bullshit on this. Due dates are estimates- not expiration dates and I’ll be damned if I raise my odds of complications and a cesarean so he can make his holiday plans. I want a natural/unmedicated birth. That’s not going out the window without a single reason for it.

What the hell happened to informed consent? I’m so angry that he’s shown to be a doctor who doesn’t mind subjecting both mom and baby to unnecessary intervention and I no longer trust him.

I’m in contact with a midwife and birthing support group in my city that agrees that he is jumping the gun since most ftms go past forty weeks as have many of her happy and healthy patients. She’s coming by to meet with me tomorrow. So relieved to take some control in this.

People need to trust their gut and put their foot down or the birthing process in the US will never improve. A patient advocate can be an absolute blessing in an environment where a mom is pressured into crap she doesn’t want. I wish I had a midwife from the very start.
