How close of a family name is it ok to use?

I have dozens of cousins and they have dozens of babies. All the best names are taken 😜 !  I just realized my cousin’s son has a name on our short list and I think we shouldn’t use it out of respect. Husband isn’t too concerned. What do you think?

If you dont see them often and arent close then I would use that name.

Totally depends how often you see them or if they will have the same great grandparent(s). For instance, I’m not close with my cousin but she has a daughter named Charlotte. My grandma is still living and is close with both of us, so if we have a girl I wouldn’t name her Charlotte because then my grandma would have two great grandchildren names Charlotte. Totally not the end of the world if you absolutely love a name but if you have a few on your list I’d go with another!

I would make the effort to find a fresh name. But if you can’t - if that’s the name you’re really stuck on, and you’re not that close to that cousin , I say go for it!
