PCOS - Anyone else?

Shevon • #1 Baby Grayson born May 30th, 2015. We are in love!!! #2 Baby Addison born August 16th. We are very blessed!!!

Hi All, I went for a visit to the endocrinologist and she suspects that due to high level of insulin and testosterone that I may have PCOS. Anyone else have this diagnosis?

I’ve been on metformin for 90days and it has helped me so much. Just feeling better in general health wise. We are still waiting for our bfp ttc 4 years. It can vary from person to person on success of conceiving after starting metformin since there could be combo factors or male factors also. So the data is unclear but I feel better and it took about 60 days in before I started to feel the effects and to notice the positive changes. Don’t give up once you start is the best advice I can give for you. I tried several times but quit quickly due to the side effects but they are only temporary and if you ask the doctor to give you the 24hr release ones the side effects go way down.

Ok thank you for the encouragement. I just started taking it about 2-3 weeks and I am working my way up in the dosage. I am currently taking 2 tablets a day. What is your current dosage? I have heard nothing but positive things about the drug so I am hoping that it will help me too ;) I think my working out 6 days a week and eating lighter and healthier have made me feel the best in years!! But I am excited to see how Metformin enhances that!

I do not have PCOS but I do have Insulin Resistance and so I take Metformin...since Insulin Resistance and PCOS usually go hand in hand, the treatment is very similar. I was diagnosed through an Endocrinologist, too. Did your doctor prescribe you anything or order further testing?I know a few women with PCOS and taking Metformin was a game changer for them.

That is so funny because I was prescribed Metformin as well. I was scared to take it because I just don’t like medication ;( I am always scared of what it going to do to me or mask other issues... either way, I am going to pick it up today. I appreciate your sharing your friends experience with me, it’s good to know and make me a little more comfortable with it. Do you think it’s affected your fertility? How long have you been trying for a baby? We had our first in 2015 and trying for #2 now. I think this and my weight has probably made it harder for me to conceive.Yeah that is exactly the same for me, my insulin was high and my testosterone was high as well which is what lead her to my diagnosis. She didn’t recommend any follow up tests, she had done the full panel but I am going to my ob-gyn in two weeks and an ultra sound next week to make sure they agree/everything else is in order. In the meantime, I cut out starches and started working out 5 days a week, so let’s see if I start taking it in January.
