What is your favorite form/brand or birth control?

I have an appointment in a few days to get the Mirena, but my friend broke down crying telling me not to do it because it made her crazy and suicidal. It was so bad she was in a mental hospital. 
Has anyone had suicidal thoughts on birth control. I really just want to do the pill so if I don’t like the effects I can stop at anytime.

I have mirena IUD the hormones stay in your uterus so it's most likely she didnt have that reaction due to the mirena. All other hormonal birth control circulates your blood stream so you're more likely to have side effects from literally every other method before you would on the IUD. I've had it 6 months and its stopped my period which I love. I'm also diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety and it hasnt made mine any worse. I've never been suicidal and I've never felt suicidal after getting mirena either. Talk to your doctor about your options and what you're wanting from your birth control.

I was on a combination pill (Low Ogestrel) for 5 years & have now had the Nexplanon arm implant for 4 years (on my second implant), and I’ve never experienced suicidal thoughts on either. Every birth control affects everyone differently, but both methods/brands I mentioned have worked well for me. 
In general, the pill is a good method as long as u can handle taking it daily around the same time everyday (within two hours if it’s a combination pill, within 30-60 minutes if it’s a mini/progestin only pill). If not, then a less time sensitive method is definitely better. 
The only method I never recommend to anyone, is the depo shot, because it’s truly toxic for ur body, especially the longer ur on it.

I started taking the pill 2 months ago (just started my third today) and I haven’t experienced any suicidal thoughts at all. The only side effects I’ve had has been mood swings and headaches but for the headache I just take an Advil and I’m good

I've been on the patch for five years, and while I'm not necessarily in a "great" place mentally/emotionally I am 1000% better than I was before I went on it. I have zero regrets.

I was recently diagnosed with PMDD and initially put on Daysee (which causes you to have a period once every three months) to deal with my symptoms.  To keep a long story short, it was terrible. Week 4 of the pill, I started bleeding and bled for sixty days straight, I got anemic and had to get on iron supplements and my mental state plummeted so badly that I was giving serious consideration to checking myself into a mental hospital because I was worried about becoming a danger to myself.
I was then switched to Blisovi 24 Fe which is a more traditional birth control pill and it's been much better this time around period wise.  My mental state isn't quite where I want it to be, but I'm not any worse than I was before getting on it.
That being said, birth control affects everyone differently. So just because it didn't work for your friend, that doesn't mean it won't work for you.
