Does shooting your shot work?

When girls shoot there shot does the relationship seem to workout? I’ve always been told to let the guys ask u out or shoot there shot first but what if they just won’t. Does that mean they’re not interested? I was volunteering for my schools game and I overheard one of the basketball players saying how gorgeous I was and I’m actually very interested in him too but he still hasn’t contacted me first!! I don’t want to seem clingy or desperate and just end up getting hurt. Any thoughts?
