He grabbed me

I'm 19 and my boyfriend is 21. He's honestly the best boyfriend I've ever had and we have been dating for 2 months now. My first boyfriend ever was when I was 16 and he was mentally abusive and manipulative and the whole relationship was just toxic. Well I've obviously realized that was wrong and I got out and a couple years later I'm dating the best guy ever. We've talked about kids and marriage and I can't wait to have a future with him. Something however happened the other night. I was crying and I guess he got frustrated and he grabbed my face really hard and squeezed it and made me look at him as he was talking. It scared me and I honestly don't remember any of what he said. It scared me and I started crying even more. It just reminded me of some things that have happened to me in the past. Then I asked him if he has done that before when he was mad and he said a couple times he grabbed his exes arms when he was mad. He felt really bad about doing that to me but idk what to think. He has depression and I don't know if it could be anything stemming from that. He has never done this to me before and that was honestly my first time seeing him mad. He is not abusive at all I just am not sure of what to make of that situation.
