When I give birth...

Question

I’m trying to decide if I want anyone to come visit when I’m in the hospital, after I give birth. I know for a fact I only want my boyfriend their for the delivery & labor. But I’m stuck on weather or not I should have visitors at all, or the day after she’s born, or what. Give me your thoughts on it, and what you did for visitors!

I’m probably the odd one out, but I had a terrible experience having people there. Not anything in particular. No rash stories ... I just felt like I wanted to grieve not being pregnant anymore (I’m weird lol). I wanted to be stingy with my new baby and my husband. I wanted to learn what it was like being a parent, but instead I was stuck feeling like I needed to entertain the guests. It was horrible. I felt like I couldn’t bear my pain properly, I couldn’t fully soak in what happened, or how precious my sweet beautiful new baby was. This time around, it will be my husband and I alone. The whole time. No one will know I’m in labor. No one will know when baby is born or where we’re at. The only person who will know is my daughters grandma. Since she will be watching her and bringing her to meet her new sibling. Other than that, it’ll just be me and my sweet hubby. The only person who created this beautiful and precious life with me! (:

I like to not have visitors because every time I give birth I wanna spend that time by myself. I just wanna rest and have no disturbance even after I’m home for a week or 2 then people can visit that’s the best time then because I had time to gather myself .

We are not even announcing that he is born u til we leave the hospital. No friends, no family until we get home. Until then it is just me, hubby, and our brand new baby ❤️❤️❤️

I was so bored so company helped occupy my time. But I only liked people there for short amounts at a time.

Day after ours is born the in laws are coming in to meet bubs.
But that’s because I have a strict no visitors rule for the first two weeks

I loved having certain people there but was really annoyed at some visitors. I would suggest only inviting/ letting know people you are close and comfortable with.  Especially right after giving birth and when you’re getting the hang of breastfeeding if you plan on that.   I had a 30+ hour labor in the hospital and was exhausted once we got in the recovery room.   I was so grateful to have my boyfriend, mom, sister and cousin there for most of my labor and afterwards but pretty much everyone else that stopped by overstayed their welcome and made it uncomfortable at times to say the least.

Maybe have someone come a couple hours after or the next day. I gave birth at the hospital I worked at and my friends/ coworkers all just randomly showed up. A notice would have been nice as I was just learning to nurse. I felt like anyone could barge in. So if you don’t want to be bothered then tell them you’re not up for visitors and you would like them to hold off on coming until you are.

I am asking for the first 24 hours to be only baby, mom, and dad.  That’s our time to bond, learn to nurse, and recover.  I’m not sharing it with anyone.  After that we will invite the grandparents and uncles and aunts to visit.

My husband was there the whole time. Plus my mom visited before she drove us home. I didn't want visitors in the hospital (or for the first week or two at home except very select people). But everyone has different tolerances and wants when it comes to that. If you are on the fence, I would tell people no. That way if you change your mind after birth, someone will be very excited to visit when you say you would like a visitor after all. If you say yes now and change your mind later, it might be more stressful for you.

I personally loved having family and friends there with all of mine but it would really depend on how you're feeling and if you are close to them or not if you dont want anyone there I would let the nurse know though so she can make sure noone is allowed in
